  1. I think that the author includes this chapter in the book to show the renewing of hope, in addition to adding a mysterious aspect. The chapter before, Pi is delirious, wasted away to almost nothing, and literally on the verge of death. When Pi reaches this mysterious island, he regains his strength and is again hopeful of survival. After weeks into his stay on the island, he discovers that the island is carnivorous, and then quickly flees, prefering to die by ocean. I think this chapter also adds a mysterious aspect to the book. It leaves the reader with questions regarding this strange island.

  2. I believe that Martel added this chapter in the book to show that their are always pros and cons to everything. He spends most of the chapter talking about Pi's findings and rebuilding of strength and hope but at the very end this is all turned around. This could all be one giant metaphor for life; to expect the unexpected.

  3. I think the author includes this chapter to show that anything is possible. A floating island full of algae and meerkats maybe the last source of hope for Pi and Richard. This chapter also shows Pi's continuing dominance over Richard as he still trains him. But when Pi finds out what kind of island this is, he sort of loses his hopes all over again, but doesn't give up on living by finding a safer way for Richard and him. Maybe some good things just have to turn bad so he can keep moving on, finding new ways to live.

  4. I think that the author includes chapter 92 because it shows hope. Pi has been on water for many days and this is the first sign of green he sees. He's knows that maybe he is closer to finding a way of the water. He has seen nothing but water and the island is possable a sign of salvation.

  5. I think this chapter was included in the book so that it keeps the overall theme alive to the end. The theme that anything is possible and that certain things seem to happen for a reason. I believe the most important part of chapter 92 was to bring Pi back to believing in God. This chapter also helped Pi develop a stronger bond with RP and gave him and RP time to re-energize them selves.
